Description
Neem Oil is a natural insecticide that has been utilized for hundreds of years in the Indian culture. It can be sprayed onto plants to kill pests and reduce the risk of further infestation. It is made by pressing the fruit and seed of the Neem tree (Azadirachta Indica) which yields booth Neem Oil and Neem Cake. Emulsified Neem Oil is Neem Oil mixed with Potassium Hydroxide to make it more readily water soluble without effecting its properties / effects.
How does it work ?
Neem Oil contains many molecules that are responsible for its anti insecticide effects, however the follow two account for the large majority of Neem Oils activity.
1 - Nimbin - A triterpenoid that posses anti-insecticidal, anti-inflammatory, anti-septic and anti-fungicidal activity.
2 - Azadactrin - a well known and studied triterpenoid that contains a variety of functional groups leading to a wide array of activity towards various receptors.
These two chemicals work as 'Anti Feedants' / 'Growth Disruptors', which affect over 200 species of insects. Both chemicals are biodegradable (when exposed to light or water) and show very low toxicity within mammals, making it an ideal organic insecticide.
We recommend you use Neem at a rate of 2ml / L and work your way up if your plants show no signs of stress. Treating plants regularly with Neem Oil is an effective way of warding off pests before they can take a hold on your plants.
